The Learning Centre has genuine expertise in the road passenger transport industry and provides training to help people to start their careers or continue their professional development. We offer a variety of programmes depending on funding and demand which are set out below.

Road Passenger Vehicle Driving

Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving

This is an NVQ programme for candidates who are employed in providing a passenger transport service by road. It is ideal for those working in a community transport environment, driving a minibus or similar work. The course combines a blend of mandatory and optional units that allow the learner or the employer to focus on elements of the programme that are the most important to them.

Mandatory units include: Safe and efficient driving of Community Transport vehicles, providing professional service, dealing with challenging situations or passengers, building effective working relationships to name but a few.

Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (T&PH)

Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (Taxi and Private Hire) (QCF)

This programme is increasingly becoming the national standard for great minicab, limo or other private hire drivers to demonstrate their competences with a qualification. It is also ideal for those wishing to break into the industry.

It is an NVQ programme specifically for candidates in the Taxi and Private Hire industry. Candidates will either provide this service directly by driving vehicles, or support the service in some way. The course combines a blend of mandatory and optional units that allow the learner or the employer to focus on elements of the programme that are the most important to them.

Mandatory units include: Driving a taxi or private hire vehicle in a professional manner, providing a safe and legal vehicle for transporting passengers by taxi and/or private hire, providing a service to customers using a wheelchair in an accessible taxi or private hire vehicle to name but a few.

Women Into the Bus Industry

It helps women who are unemployed, economically inactive, or working part-time to get the skills and experience needed to start their careers in the bus industry. To find out more, please visit our Women Into the Bus Industry page

Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS)

This training provides awareness of the legal, practical and safety issues surrounding minibus driving and passenger awareness, assistance and safety.

MiDAS has become a nationally recognised standard in Britain for minibus driving. The benefits include enhanced passenger safety, improved passenger comfort, increased driver confidence, reduced stress on minibus drivers, potential reduction in vehicle running costs, potential reduction in insurance premiums, a better image for organisations and a better image for minibuses.

Certificate of Professional Competence for Drivers
