Helping people to achieve their goals
The Learning Centre is focussed on helping its learners achieve thier goals - be that jobs, professional developmnet or further study. Last year we helped 392 people who were long term unemployed to gain a qualification, with many going onto find work as a consequence. This page presents just a handful of our learner's stories.
Diane Reed, School Bus Driver, CT PLus Yorkshire
Diane Reed is a single mother with two children who was unemployed for five months before she came to do Transport Skills2Progress course. Previous to her unemployed period, Diane had been working for several printing factories for 25 years and was made redundant by the latest factory that she had been working for.
She did not want to go back to her printing job as she was looking for a career change. She was desperate to go back to work after spending five months being unemployed as she had to support her family. When she was in the job centre, she saw one of Learning Centre leaflet and called in to come on to the training. She did MIDAS and PCV theory as progression and completed her training successfully.
She then applied to become bus driver and was taken on by an operator as trainee bus driver. She found the shift work difficult to manage with her children as she is single mum, so decided to leave in order to take care of her family. She came to CT Plus to make an application and she got a job as school bus driver.
She is very happy in her job as the hours she does fit with her family requirements.
