General Manager – Powell’s , Rotherham, Competitive

We are seeking to recruit a General Manager with the skills and experience to take Powell’s, our recently acquired business, to the next level.

With almost forty vehicles and around sixty staff based at a depot in Rotherham, the business operates an intensive network of school, college, local bus and private hire services throughout South Yorkshire. The business has been built up by three generations of the Powell family, and this is reflected in a highly committed, dedicated team of loyal staff and excellent relationships with local stakeholders.

A superb location adjacent to the M18 brings the whole of the Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster regions within easy reach, as well as North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, meaning that there is considerable scope to look for new opportunities.

Reporting to our Regional Director for Yorkshire, the General Manager will provide enthusiastic, energetic leadership to the Powell’s team, including all operational, engineering and administrative functions.

The right candidate will be able to harness the knowledge and experience that already exists within the team, while putting in place the systems, processes and investment that is needed to prepare the business for the opportunities that lie ahead.

This opportunity will suit someone with great leadership and interpersonal skills, a natural manager of people with the empathy and understanding to draw the best from the staff, while demanding the high standards that will be essential in realising our future vision for the company. The post-holder will also need to be comfortable liaising with partners and clients including local authorities, schools, colleges and private businesses.

With full budgetary responsibility for Powell’s, the right candidate will need to have a good understanding of financial disciplines, and a detailed awareness of best practice in respect of health, safety and environmental processes and operational compliance is essential. The successful candidate will ideally already hold a Transport Manager CPC, but if not will be willing to undergo the necessary training at an early stage with a view to being the nominated Transport Manager for the Operator’s Licence.

A full job description for the role can be downloaded here.

To apply for this role, please send a CV and cover letter to peterwalch@hctgroup.org no later than 17 August 2018. No agencies please.

Service Manager, CT Plus (Yorkshire), Wakefield, £comp

We have recently expanded the network of local bus routes and school and college services operating from our Wakefield depot, and we need an enthusiastic, ‘hands on’ individual to ensure that we are our delivering these services to the high standards expected by the contracting authorities and the general public who rely on these services.

The postholder will directly manage the small team of supervisors who oversee the day to day operation of these services, setting the standards that the business expects and ensuring that these are delivered day in, day out. The role will include coverage of supervisory shifts to cover for sickness, holidays and open duties and therefore a willingness to work early morning and late evening shifts is essential.

This role will provide line management not just to the supervisors but also to the drivers operating these services and therefore the postholder will need to have excellent leadership and motivational skills. He or she will need to be comfortable carrying out first line management tasks including absence management and discipline.

Compliance with legal standards is a necessity, so the successful candidate will either need to have a Transport Management CPC qualification or be willing to undergo the necessary training at an early stage, to take up the position of nominated Transport Manager on the Operator’s Licence.

The Service Manager will also have budgetary responsibility for the services under his or her control, and therefore will need a good basic understanding of financial principles.

As part of a close knit management team within a fast growing regional business, the postholder will have the opportunity to contribute to the future development of the Group’s services in the region, and to grow with the business. It’s therefore an ideal opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to take their first step into the world of management.
