Mrs Ann Tennyson

Mrs Ann Tennyson of Hull uses the popular Dial-a-Ride service from West Hull Community Transport (WHCT) to get out and about – the ‘Orange Bus’.Mrs Ann Tennyson, 88

‘I am an 88-year-old lady who likes to keep busy. I have to get around with a walking stick and need assistance to get in and out of a car or taxi. I use West Hull Community Transport, without this service my life would be miserable. The service they provide is wonderful. The drivers are most helpful and sympathetic to my needs. I cannot use public transport and West Hull Community Transport takes me to the hospital, clinic and social events.

‘I am a volunteer worker at Age UK Hull as a receptionist and WHCT pick me up and take me home again, without this support I would not be able to be this active in helping the older residents ofHull. I only have to telephone and ask for the Orange Bus and if possible they will always oblige me.

‘Without this service I would have to get a taxi, which would be much more expensive, as it is difficult for me to get around. I love being a volunteer – it means so much to me, I meet my friends, feel valued and enjoy getting out and socialising – and feel I put something back into the community that I live in, all thanks to the Orange Bus.’
