It was 20 years ago today. . . .

when my colleague, co-conspirator and friend started at HCT. Jude Winter has spent the last 20 years of her life trying - and succeeding - in making a huge difference to people’s lives and for this she and the whole of HCT should be, and are, proud.
Jude’s background was not in buses or social enterprise, but theatre – and radical theatre at that – and her first contact with HCT was as a user of services. Something obviously sparked in her and a few years later she is applying to be Deputy Director as it was called in back then.
What impressed me in those days were her values, wanting to make a better world. She did not know about buses but she knew about people, she knew she could make a difference and knew what she wanted. She learnt buses, community transport, training and all the bits in between.
She drove the organisation; she had and has tenacity - once she got something between her teeth she did not let go. The belief in fairness, equality and the creation of a values led business is something she strives for every day. She is obviously one of the key factors in why we employ so many women in senior positions in HCT, not like a typical bus company!
She has always been very passionate, and this along with her drive has made her such a success. It is interesting that the CEO (me) gets the limelight, but none of what we have achieved would have been possible without a strong and amazing team, and Jude epitomises the values that create great organisations.
As HCT embarks on another push for growth, another drive to create greater impact we are fortunate that the values that Jude holds so dear are now seen throughout the organisation. We have a management team which is second to none, and many of the next generation of leaders that have joined HCT have done so because of what we stand for, the business model of social enterprise and the opportunity to create greater value for society at large.
As a transport company we are allowed to say we have been on a journey, ups and downs along the way, but we have stuck at what we believe, stuck to the values we believe in and we are confident that the next 20 years will be as rewarding, fun and successful as the past.
