Board members are recruited from the open market based on the needs of the organisation. They are, collectively and individually, appraised regularly. HCT also conducts periodic skills audits of our Board and Senior Executive team to ensure that we have the appropriate skill set in our governing team.
The board meets regularly and has a maximum of 12 members, and are appointed for a period of three years. Retiring directors may be reappointed for a second term of up to three years.

Sir Vince Cable

Vince is the former Leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for Twickenham. He has had a high profile career in government and finance, and served in the coalition government as the Business, Innovation and Skills Secretary between 2010 and 2015. Prior to that he was the Liberal Democrat party’s Shadow Chancellor from 2003 until 2010.
Before entering national politics Vince worked as a treasury finance officer for the Kenyan Government, deputy director of the Overseas Development Institute, and was special advisor on economic affairs for the Commonwealth Secretary General. In the 1990’s he worked for Shell International, becoming its Chief Economist in 1995, before being elected to Parliament in 1997.
